After reading Omayeli Arenyeka’s “How to think differently about doing good as a creative person” article, I questioned myself: “Do I have this “Creative Savior Complex” (CSC) phenomenon?” CSC is a kind of self-satisfaction of people. They think they have done some good things, but in fact, it may be the opposite. This makes me think back in my mind. I do something that I think is good for others. In fact, do they really need my help? I didn’t realize these problems before. Until I read this article, it seemed to alert me. For example, the article mentioned “A superiority complex: the belief they’re better than the people receiving their “help,” or that other people are incapable of helping themselves. This distinctly patronizing belief is often rooted in racism.” This is really like prejudice. These people don’t need this help. Some people will satisfy their vanity and will force them to accept their help. This kind of help that people imagine themselves will produce CSC.

There is another way to do good things is to donate money. This is the lower incidence of CSC. This is also a way that people often choose because it is easier. All you need to do is give money, and the professionals will take care of the rest. I think this is also a good way to let professional personnel investigate and help people in need. But some people just like to take practical actions. This is why there is a CSC situation. “You have to be honest about your intentions and your output, especially when people’s lives are involved.”When we decide to influence the lives of others, we need to ask ourselves what is our goal in doing this? If we have our own selfishness, then this good thing will change. This is no longer a matter of helping others, but a matter of satisfying oneself. When doing a good thing, we need to let go of our own personal thoughts and consider the issues of these people in need. This requires responsibility and the ability to solve problems. We need to communicate with these people and know their needs, not our own imagination. During this period, there may be many conflicts between your inner thoughts and plans, and you have to solve these problems.
